Phil the Fairy tale snail - process of the idea change

I started this drawing ages ago. I was watching tutorials on photoshop painting and decided to try it out. Basic difference was that every element was painted on the same layer, and not divided by shade layer, highlight layer and so on...

It started with the quick sketch.

Simple solid background and i began painting. I did almost all elements, when i hit a wall on the house.

My sketch was too sketchy. The house didn't fit, it was extremely out of proportion and didn't even stand on the tree. I gave up on it and the drawing was left in a drawer for quite a while...

Yesterday i picked up on it again - changed the house first, thought of the background - and ended up being very unhappy with it. The snail was turning into a Nemesis.
I ended this last night as it is - and i actually fell asleep while making flowers...

This morning, armed with a fresh cup of coffee i went at it again!
In the end i totally gave up on the background picture and coloring. Changed everything about the mood of the picture... Background got a full redo. And there was Phil the fairy tale snail checking out the magical house...
